Laos Backround information:

Laos is bordered by Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, China and Burma (Myanmar).

Laos is a socialist republic and became independent from French rule in 1949.

As Laos is a land locked country, export of produce is minimal as there are no major ports.

Due to the abundance of fast flowing rivers, surrounding fast growing countries look to Laos for future Hydro-power projects to meet the increasing demand for energy.

Laos Expedition Goals:
- Complete first descents unexplored rivers of The Bolaven Plateau region of Laos.

- Complete first and possibly last decent of the Xe Kamman River, currently undergoing dam construction.

- Work with the local authorities and the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) to relay information on remote unexplored areas.

- Further Explore 4000 Islands section of the Mekong River.

- Promote Laos as a future destination for tourism as a white water Mecca.

- Raise global awareness of environmental destruction taking place in even the most remote untouched parts of the world.

- Create a feature length documentary on the findings of our expedition to be distributed within the white water and global community.

-Achieve maximum exposure for this incredible expedition. Travel via white water kayak means that normally untouchable extremely remote areas can be recorded and documented before they are lost forever.
